A course for those working in a variety of healthcare roles who require knowledge of how to provide high quality care and support for individuals approaching the end of life, their families and carers.
What will I learn from this course?
- To define what is Palliative Care and End of Life Care
- To identify those patients approaching the end of life and plan ahead
- To recognise common symptoms and their management
- To recognise and manage palliative care emergencies
- To increase awareness of identification / prognostication / phases of illness / illness trajectories
- To understand ‘what is a good death’- last weeks to days
- To understand what Advance Care Planning (ACP) is and the benefits
- To describe how the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) relates to ACP
- To identify how to communicate ACP with patients and families and recognise common barriers
- To be able to understand and explain the ReSPECT process
- To understand how to record recommendations on ReSPECT forms
